Trust and Estate Legal Assistant

We are seeking a highly organized and proactive Legal Assistant to join the Burrey Law Group team. In this role, you will be a true business partner to our firm’s CEO, providing comprehensive support to our estate planning and administration practice. Your work will be critical to the firm’s success and will directly impact our ability to deliver a remarkable client experience. You will be responsible for creating specific, quantifiable value by managing attorney calendars, preparing and executing estate planning documents, and ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the office.

Key Objectives

A successful candidate for this role will achieve the following objectives, ranked in order of priority:

  • Draft a wide range of legal documents, including trusts, wills, powers of attorney, deeds, and probate pleadings, ensuring all documents are prepared with a meticulous attention to detail and a high degree of autonomy.
  • Assist with all aspects of trust and probate administration, including preparing and filing court documents, managing client communication, and tracking deadlines to ensure cases progress efficiently.
  • Prepare estate planning documents for client signings, coordinating with clients to schedule appointments, preparing signing binders, and assisting with the execution of documents to provide a seamless client experience.
  • Manage attorneys’ calendars by proactively scheduling appointments, court dates, and deadlines to ensure optimal time management and prevent conflicts.
  • Serve as the firm’s certified Notary Public, handling all notarization needs for client and firm documents, including estate plans.
  • Assist with conservatorships and guardianships, including drafting necessary documents and managing case-specific administrative tasks.
  • Manage case files, ensuring all digital and physical files are organized, up-to-date, and accessible to the team.
  • Perform office administration tasks, including managing supplies, handling mail, and maintaining an organized and welcoming office environment.
Competencies

The ideal candidate will bring the following competencies to Burrey Law Group to achieve their objectives:

Education & Experience
  • Required:
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience as a legal assistant or paralegal in a trust and estate planning and/or administration practice.
  • High school diploma (or equivalent).
  • Notary Public Requirement: Must possess and maintain a valid California Notary Public certificate. The firm will cover the costs of renewal and any associated continuing education.
  • Preferred (A Plus, Not Required):
  • Paralegal Certificate from an ABA-approved program.
  • Certified Paralegal or Certified Legal Assistant designation.
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
